Donny Littlejohn, 1947 - 2026

I have thought for a long time on how best to remember my Uncle Donny. I loved his story of how his Korean co-workers challenged him to explore the extremes of Korean cuisine. Ha! Little did they know!

I remember waiting all day (and into the night) for the best food you’d ever eat.

I remember watching Linda teach Uncle Donny the Russian alphabet in our apartment in Moscow. The excited teacher and the eager student. That one always brings a smile. My favorite picture of both my Dad and Donny comes from that trip.

But the story I hold most dear. The one that I always think of when I think of my uncle:

We were in New Mexico probably around 1983. Dad and Donny took me and Clint up to explore a cave. This cave hadn’t been set up for tourists yet, so you had a long hike up a rugged trail to get to the entrance. At the trailhead, there was a sign showing all the animals you might see on the trek.

Including, much to my terror, a rattlesnake.

Aghast, I said, “What happens if I get bit by a rattler?!”

“Don’t worry”, Uncle Donny said, “I’ll bite him back.”

I love you, Uncle Donny.
